Live Review (@ Redwoods, Kidderminster - R&B issue 13):

Blighty are a band I last saw in Wolverhampton, at the Outta Limit, and recently I've been listening to their CD quite a bit. Their live performance certanly did not disapoint. Blighty use two vocalists and this gives a bit of variety, as on occasion one singer would depart to leave the other to sing a solo and this proved to be an interesting approach. Blighty have a familiar sound that is hard to put your finger on - it has elements of sixties bands such as the Beatles and the Stones, but with a much more up to date, brit-pop edge. The original material that they play is really catchy, and you find yourself being drawn in to the likes of Sunshine Fever, Doing Better, and the rocking Fashion Police. Put that together with a couple of excellent covers in the shape of Teenage Kicks, and Jumping Jack Flash, and you have the recipe for a really entertaining band. Blighty are a really good band, and you should try to see them if you like indie rock.

CD Review (Rhythm & Booze issue 12):

We've had this seven track demo for a couple of weeks - in fact it turned up the day after we went to press with the last issue of the fanzine. I have played it a number of times since getting my hands on it and the perky, indie rock numbers really got logged in my head. We first featured this band back in issue nine, and I really enjoyed them live and said I wanted to hear more... well this CD certainly doesn't disapoint. It's difficult to put my finger on who they sound like, but the sound is familiar - a bit like Oasis with a better singer - it has the same kind of sixties feel, and it is a sound that is so accessible and easy to get into. The band play really well together, and the guitar player is certainly capable of finding his way around the fretwork. Fashion Police comes across a bit like the Stones crossed with Oasis, especially in the singers drawl. Doing Better has the classic Na-Na ending, and The Ballad Of Mickey is a really nice acoustic number that a number of brit-pop bands would kill for. My favourite track on here is 'Brighter Times' - it has such a catchy tune, I found myself singing it days after hearing it.

Blighty are an indie band that I really rate, and that's a rare thing. The band are all good musicians, they have an excellent singer, and the songs are memorable. Check them out.
